green chives whole and cut

Chives

Allium schoenoprasum

Is one of the classic kitchen herbs, mainly used in egg dishes, salads and numerous dairy products. Chives contains numerous vitamins and secondary plant substances that have a positive influence on our health. The chive flowers are also edible. They also taste leeky and are a nice splash of colour in summer salads.

Saving vitamins and minerals

Chives should never be dried as they lose their aroma, flavour and healthy ingredients (vitamins and essential oils). However, freezing is not a problem. Simply wrap the fresh herb in a beeskin and put it in the freezer. The tubes keep their shape, the aroma and the vitamins. We recommend a beeskin size m or L. So good for you

It is the mustard oils that have a positive influence on digestion. Flatulence is dissolved and the appetite is stimulated. Chives are antibacterial and expectorant. The blood pressure-lowering properties should also be mentioned.

Did you know?

Especially exciting: chives actually contain more vitamin C than an apple. In comparison, you would have to eat 1kg of apples to get the same vitamin C content from 100g of chives. If you have a sunny spot on the balcony or in the garden, there is someone else who will be very happy about Allium Schoenoprasum: our friends the bees and other pollinating insects will be very grateful to you for the provided food.
